14th October 2015

Road safety experts will hold a media conference as part of the 2015 Australasian Road Safety Conference.

WHAT: Media conference

WHERE: Upper Level Foyer, Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Cnr of Gold Coast Highway & TE Peters Drive, Gold Coast

WHEN: Thursday October 15

TIME: 10am-10.30am

WHY: Road safety experts will discuss the increasing road toll in Queensland and Australia and the latest research being undertaken to prevent future fatalities.

As part of the 2015 Australasian Road Safety Conference, more than 600 experts from across the globe are sharing the latest in road safety research, with the view of taking a "towards zero" approach to reducing the road toll at home and abroad.

So far this year there has been an almost 6 per cent increase in people dying on Queensland roads compared to the same time last year. Over the Easter long weekend there was an increase in fatalities of 166 per cent. Although historically Australia has been a world leader in road safety, experts say we have now fallen behind and we can and must improve.
