QUT is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Carol Nicoll PSM as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Coaldrake said Professor Nicoll would bring impressive and wide-ranging experience across the different levels of education.

"As both a practitioner and scholar, she is ideally suited to lead QUT's Faculty of Education through major transition, to shape organisational strategy and culture and to lead change," Professor Coaldrake said.

Professor Nicoll was the foundation Chief Commissioner and
CEO of TEQSA, Australia's national regulator for higher education.

She has also served with distinction as a senior Commonwealth official in a number of roles including CEO of the Australian Learning and Teaching Council; Group Manager of the National Education System Group, DEEWR; and Group Manager, Industry Skills Development Group, DEST.

Professor Nicoll was Minister-Counsellor in Brussels for Education, Science and Training, DEST; Branch Manager, Funding Branch with DEST's Higher Education Group; and Head of 'Backing Australia's Future' Higher Education Review team, DEST.

Earlier in her career she was a secondary school teacher (Lourdes Hill College and Somerville House). She holds a Master of Educational Administration from the University of Queensland and a PhD from the University of British Columbia.

Professor Nicoll will take up her new role in January 2016.

Professor Coaldrake warmly acknowledged outgoing Executive Dean Professor Wendy Patton.

"We thank Professor Patton for her outstanding contribution and leadership of the Faculty since 2006, and look forward to her continuing her impressive research program at QUT," Professor Coaldrake said.
