QUT teachers who excel in creating real world learning environments and experiences for their students in robotics, Indigenous studies, science, and engineering are among those honoured by this year's Australian Awards for University Teaching.

QUT educators have received five Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in the national awards and were recognised at a Brisbane ceremony on September 24.

The recipients are:

Professor Peter Corke - For providing students at QUT and around the world accessible, leading edge curricula and resources that engage and inspire them as future leaders in robotics.

Dr Debbie Duthie - For inspiring and transformative teaching of Indigenous Studies to social work and human services students to prepare them for culturally safe practice.

Associate Professor Jennifer Firn - For innovative, project-based science teaching that engages, motivates and mentors students in undertaking authentic scientific discovery through supportive communities of practice.

Professor Doug Hargreaves - For influencing learning in a large first year unit via motivational directed peer- and self-learning approaches that broaden students' understanding of the engineering profession.

The Connections for Learning Program (Professor Robyn Nash, Rena Frohman and Pamela Lemcke) - For enabling thousands of culturally and linguistically diverse students to succeed as learners and achieve professional aspirations through active engagement in a contextualised co-curricular program.

The citation recipients have each been awarded $10,000 which will be used to further their work in teaching and learning.

QUT's five citations placed the university in the nation's top four performers for this round of awards.

The Australian Awards for University Teaching are overseen by the Australian Government's Office for Teaching and Learning.
