Tickets are now available to see four of Australia's funniest stand-up comedians perform at a QUT event celebrating Indigenous culture through comedy this Thursday (August 6).

Pointing the Funny Bone wraps up QUT Reconciliation Week celebrations and is the final event in its annual Murri-Ailan Way, which showcases Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, talent and community.

Starting at 7pm in The Loft, QUT Creative Industries Precinct, the evening features Aboriginal comedians Kevin Kropinyeri, Shiralee Hood, Matt Ford and Mark Sheppard.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of QUT's Oodgeroo Unit, which is supporting the event, said lovers of stand-up comedy were in for a unique treat.

"I guarantee a good belly laugh and an opportunity to see some amazing comedians who will also enlighten the audience on why humour is such a key part of their culture. Indigenous comics are not always given the same exposure as others and QUT is proud to present this event," Professor Lee Hong said.

"Kevin Kropinyeri, Shiralee Hood and Matt Ford are all veterans of the world-famous Melbourne International Comedy Festival and are also well-known for their appearances at other comedy festivals in Brisbane and Canberra along with events like the Deadly Awards."

Matt won the 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival's 'Class Clowns' competition in his final year of high school in Brisbane and has since worked with some of Australia's top comedians.

Mark Sheppard, who will play host at Pointing the Funny Bone, is a classic all-rounder when it comes to performance, making a name for himself in dance, theatre, clowning, circus and comedy.

Originally from Mareeba, Mark is currently an Associate Producer at La Boite Theatre Company and wrote and starred in Chasing the Lollyman which toured Australia with DeBase Productions.

"The audience can expect a night of audacious, hilarious and deadly black comedy from four people who will definitely give the funny bone a good tickle."

Dancing Bean bar adjacent to the Loft opens at 6pm, and the show starts at 7pm on August 6. Tickets are $20 (full) and $15 (concession). To find out more and to purchase tickets to Pointing the Funny Bone, visit QUT's Creative Industries Precinct website or email ciprecinct@qut.edu.au
