QUT's Social Media Research Group and Hypometer founders are tracking the social media activities around the Queensland election campaign.

Lead data analyst and researcher Katie Prowd said two Queensland Election Social Index Hypometers had been created and provide real-time information.

Ms Prowd said the group's social media analytics activities involve both Twitter and Instagram.

A combination of the key hashtags (#qldpol, #qldvotes, etc.) and keywords relating to the major parties and their leaders are being tracked, as well as tweets by and @mentions of all of the Twitter accounts associated with local candidates across all Queensland electorates.

Hypometer is a QUT-based commercial startup which tracks and ranks social media activity around major topics, events and brands with assistance from qutbluebox, the University's innovation and knowledge transfer company. For more information on The Hypometer, please contact Katie Prowd (k2.prowd@qut.edu.au), and sign up for launch updates at http://www.thehypometer.com.
