Parents make bad call with mobile phone use: CARRS-Q study: Hypocritical parents who tell their children not to dial and drive but use their mobile phones behind the wheel are setting a bad example for young drivers, according to QUT road safety researchers.

Parents of children born to commercial surrogates risk not being the legal parents: Australians who pay an overseas surrogate mother risk not being deemed the legal parents of the child under Australian law, even if commercial surrogacy is legal in a country where the child is born, QUT Australian Centre for Health Law Research academic Pip Trowse said.

G20 talk fest echoed on Twitter: Brisbane's G20 Leaders' Summit proved a Twitter talk fest, attracting 1.02 million tweets since October 23.

QUT criminologist awarded for lifetime achievement by American Society of Criminology: The first-ever American Society of Criminology Lifetime Achievement award (Division of Critical Criminology) to be made to an Australian criminologist has been conferred on Professor Kerry Carrington, head of QUT's School of Justice, Faculty of Law.

- Distinguished Professor James Dale's "superbanana" was hailed as one of the world's 25 best inventions for 2014 in TIME magazine.
- Brisbane Times reported on Peter Black's 'positive' meeting with the Queensland Attorney General about expunging historic gay sex convictions.
- Dr Mark McGovern's warning that Australia's Free Trade Agreement with China may not bring in the money claimed was featured on ABC 612 radio and several ABC regional stations and he was quoted in a piece for the Hobart Mercury.
- News.com.au and APN featured Dr Paul Barnes from QUT's Centre for Emergency and Disaster Management and CEDM guest speaker Mark Crosweller talking about being prepared for natural disasters.
- Cassandra Gauld told the Brisbane Times and mX that hypocritical parents were compromising dialling-and-driving warnings for young drivers. She was also interviewed on 4BC and ABC radio.
- Professor Clive Bean told AAP Pauline Hanson's past policies are now irrelevant and she may not have enough time to build a credible profile for the next election.
- Indian Prime Minister Nerandra Modi's technology tour of QUT was widely published across Fairfax's regional network.
- QUT's partnership with India on biofuels and iron-rich bananas was reported by Chemicals Technology and Bio Spectrum.
- Dr Judith Locke told The Sunday Mail the slight rise in abandonment cases in casinos could be due to an increase in patronage.
- Professor Michael Rosemann told CIO magazine and PC Advisor digital transformation cuts across all levels of business, government or higher education
- Dr Tim Foresman talked about the future of spatial technologies with ABC612's Steve Austin.
- The Sydney Morning Herald featured Professor John Scott's book, Male Sex Work and Society.
- Spatial Source covered QUT's hosting of one of Australia's biggest spatial events, Brisbane GIS Day.
- QUT's 10th fashion graduation showcase was blogged about on ToToi.
- There was more international coverage for QUT's nanotechnology research breakthrough that could lead to cars powered by their own body panels. I freaking love science covered the story, with more than 20,000 shares and nearly 84,500 likes, and tech website Tom's Hardware.
- Dr Ernest Foo was interviewed on G20 cyber security by CBS news and its report republished on Fox News
- The Conversation featured pieces by Ben Goldsmith (discord between the ABC and SBS), Professor Brian McNair (broken promises over ABC funding), and Professor Jon Roberts (outback rescue robots), whose words were also published by Australasian Science.
- QUT's Social Media Research Group also featured on The Conversation with a piece on their Twitter analysis of the G20, which was republished by Australian Business and Australasian Science.
