QUT is urging Year 12 students and mature age students across regional Queensland to apply for QUT Equity Scholarships worth $3500 or $5000.

The needs-based scholarships are open to people with low incomes who want to study at QUT but are experiencing financial hardship.

People can apply for a QUT Equity Scholarship by amending their QTAC application to complete the 'financial hardship' element of the Educational Access Scheme (EAS).

QUT will then automatically consider them for a scholarship. If they are successful, the university will write to them early in the new year to advise that they are guaranteed a scholarship, providing they end up enrolled at QUT.

More than 2000 scholarships and bursaries were awarded to QUT students in 2014.

QUT Equity Director Mary Kelly said QUT had devoted more money to the scholarship program in 2015 and increased the value of each scholarship to $3500 (up from $2500 in 2014).

With thirty $5000 scholarships available exclusively to rural scholarships (funded through donations from philanthropists Tim Fairfax and Laurie Cowled), the QUT Equity Scholarships Scheme is the largest of its kind in Australia.
