Associate Professor Gene Moyle has become one of the youngest psychologists to be awarded the 2014 Australian Psychological Society (APS) College of Sport & Exercise Psychologists (CoSEP) Award of Distinction.

The 42-year-old head of QUT Dance received the award on 14 October at a CoSEP Queensland professional development evening.

The award is made in recognition of the important and significant contribution she has made to the fields of sports and exercise psychology.

"It is a great honour to be nominated for the Award of Distinction, let alone win," Associate Professor Moyle said

"I am very grateful to the APS and CoSEP for this wonderful recognition.

"I am passionate about the field of sport and exercise psychology, and it has provided me with a wonderful and varied career to-date. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the profession."

Professor Moyle has an extensive experience in sport and exercise psychology service, having engaged in practice in Australia for the past 14 years.

She has lectured in sport and exercise/performance psychology within the Creative Industries Faculty at QUT since 2002.

Some of her career highlights include:
•working with Australian Winter Olympic sports over three Olympic cycles (Torino 2006, Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014) including being a part of the Australian Winter Olympic Team at the Vancouver Games
•leading the integration of performance psychology into the curriculum of university dance training
•working with some of the best elite athletes, performers and corporate teams across Australia, including the Australian Ballet School, QLD Academy of Sport and Australian Institute of Sport.

Professor Moyle has been a long standing APS member and has served CoSEP in a variety of capacities, including leadership roles on both the national and state committees.

The APS is the leading organisation for psychologists in Australia, representing more than 21,000 members.
