QUT is pleased to announce that Professor Peter Coaldrake AO has agreed to accept a new contract as the University's Vice-Chancellor, taking his term through to December 2017.

QUT Chancellor Tim Fairfax AC said the University Council was unanimous in its decision for Professor Coaldrake to continue past his current term.

"Professor Coaldrake has shown strong leadership across the higher education sector and QUT looks forward to his steering the university through the sector's current funding and policy challenges," Mr Fairfax said.

"His knowledge and capacity to contribute to national debate is very high, evidenced by his recent re-election to the board of Universities Australia.

"Professor Coaldrake has been pivotal in driving QUT's ambitions, as articulated through its strategic plan Blueprint 4, and demonstrated in 2013 by the university's Times Higher Education ranking as Australia's top young university under 50 years.

"Support for the current Vice-Chancellor's leadership was evident in the outstanding results of the 2014 staff opinion survey."

Mr Fairfax said Professor Coaldrake had led a half billion-dollar infrastructure program at QUT over the past 10 years including the establishment of the Science and Engineering Centre and the two-storey high interactive learning display space, The Cube.

He has also overseen the rise of QUT as Australia's fastest growing research university and fostered exciting new research linkages nationally and internationally for the university.
