MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS

- Professor Ben Matthews told AAP Australia lacks the most basic research evidence about the prevalence of child sex abuse necessary to produce sound policy to fight the crime.
- Dr Gary Mortimer explained to News Corp why, when it comes to groceries, Brisbane is one of the world's cheapest capital cities to fill your trolley.
- ABC head Mark Scott's two speeches at QUT were reported widely, including mUmBRELLA, AAP, Sky News and The Australian
- The Fairfax network ran a story on Creative Industries grad Patrick Clair's Creative Arts Emmy win for his haunting title sequence for True Detective.
- Hanna Watling's research on the drinking habits of middle-aged women made page three of The Courier-Mail, as well as the Cairns Post and News.com.au
- Professor Ben White and keynote speakers at the International End of Life Conference hosted by QUT's own Australian Centre for Health Law Research spoke to ABC 612's Kelly Higgins-Devine about making plans for end of life and other issues covered at the conference
- Professor Lindy Willmott was also interviewed by ABC radio Melbourne about advanced directives and withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment in the lead-up conference. The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age also covered the story
- And Peter Singer's debate with Charles Camosy which opened the conference appeared in the Fairfax papers
- Peter Black told News Corp parents should monitor which apps their children download and he also explained in an opinion piece for the ABC's The Drum how the "trolling" of Zelda Williams revealed the nasty side of social media but the current system of self-regulation of online abuse remains the best option
- Dr Christine Satchell lent her expertise to a Gold Coast Bulletin story about social media addiction.
- Professor Paula McDonald's research on workplace sexual harassment was cited in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age and throughout the Fairfax network. Professor McDonald was interviewed by online news outlet The New Daily about payouts for sexual harassment cases
- Bob O'Connor told The Australian's The Deal magazine universities were "tweaking" their MBA offerings to offer something unique, with "very strong" demand for QUT's own programs
- Rebecca Byrne's research that found Australian toddlers are not eating enough iron was popular with media overseas and at home including the Fairfax press and Channel Nine
- Dr Mark McGovern's research into the farm debt crisis was aired widely on ABC radio news and rural press while his piece on The Conversation piece on Russian sanctions being the least of the sector's problems also ran in rural press.
- Indian Link reported on the QUT creative industries students who travelled to Bollywood to see what makes the world's biggest film industry tick.
- Dr Dipa Sarkar lent her expertise to Channel 7's story about Australia's biggest family bringing home a new addition.
- The Cube's new installation Chem World made it into the Courier-Mail, Brisbane Times and Fairfax's IT section nationally.
- QUT's National Science Week events made the Courier-Mail.
- Emeritus Professor Bill Caelli lent his expertise to a Wynnum Herald story about slow internet speeds.
- Australian Business ran John Willsteed's The Conversation piece about the decline of mega festivals in Australia, as well as Dr Gary Mortimer's The Conversation piece about Coles and Woolworths using your shopping data as they move into money services.

QUT celebrates 25 years as a university: One of Australia's top young universities, QUT, has turned 25 years old and will celebrate the milestone with a gala dinner on September 10.

Moody TV titles win an Emmy for talented QUT grad: QUT film and television graduate Patrick Clair has won an Emmy for creating the moody opening title sequence for the American HBO series True Detective.

Creative3 pitch to catapult clever businesses: QUT Creative Enterprise Australia (CEA) will host the Creative3 Pitch next month in conjunction with River City Labs, iLab and Silicon Lakes.

Major changes needed for "our ABC" to flourish in the future: The ABC faces a dramatic overhaul to cope with the "unprecedented scale and pace of change" in the media industry, the public broadcaster's managing director has told QUT audiences today.
