18th August 2014

One of Australia's top young universities, QUT, has turned 25 years old and will celebrate the milestone with a gala dinner on September 10.

Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT) became QUT in 1989 after the passing of the Queensland University Technology Act and the approval of its new university status.

The change heralded a new era as a "university for the real world".

The QUT Gala 25th Anniversary Dinner on September 10 will celebrate the anniversary, QUT's achievements in its first 25 years and its aims for the future.

The event is expected to draw about 800 people to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, including staff, former staff, alumni, industry partners and friends of QUT.

QUT provides world-class teaching and facilities - many of which have been built over the past decade as part of a $500 million development program.

The university has also developed world-leading research programs in targeted areas that focus on applied outcomes that benefit the wider community.

Its graduates are proving themselves nationally and internationally, with many remaining linked to the university through QUT Alumni.

Tickets to the 25th Anniversary Dinner are now on sale. Visit www.qut.edu.au for details.
