QUT's latest Explore Uni camps have proved popular with siblings and twins from north of Brisbane.

The university experience camps attracted four sets of twins in July and also reunited some brothers and sisters.

The camps are run with the help of QUT's student ambassadors - experienced uni students who share their knowledge and tips with younger school students who are interested in going to university.

Student ambassador Stephanie Knust, who is studying law and justice, got to show her younger sister Maggie Knust (Year 12 at Burnett State College, Gayndah) around campus during the Sunshine Coast-Wide Bay camp on July 25-27.

At the north Brisbane camp on July 18-20, QUT ambassador Antonio Agpalza, who is currently studying business and creative industries, was on hand to help Deception Bay State High School students, including his younger brother Andrew (Year 12).

Twins who took part in the camps included Burnett State College identical twins Kash and Lane Gibson (that's Kash on the left), who kept everyone guessing who was who.

Adam McNiven, from QUT's Explore Uni team, said the students visited QUT's three campuses and took part in activities and tours, including attending the TSXPO and the annual QUT Open Day.

"It's always a huge month for us with over 340 school students taking part in our Explore Uni camps," he said.

"It's great timing because they get to go to TSXPO and the QUT Open Day and really soak up the atmosphere.

"Our student ambassadors are a fantastic help at all our camps and add a real world youth element that the school students can relate to."

The Sunshine Coast-Wide Bay camp attracted 166 students and teachers from the Sunshine Coast-Wide Bay region, including Maroochydore State High (35), Bundaberg State High (18), Nanango State High (26), Isis District State High (9), Nambour State High (43), Burnett State College (14) and Bundaberg North State High (21).

The north Brisbane camp had 181 students from schools including Morayfield State High (34), Deception Bay State High (39), Kilcoy State High (25), Tullawong State High (19), Bribie Island State High (29), Pine Rivers State High (17) and Clontarf Beach State High (18). The camp was timed with TSXPO.

QUT's Explore Uni camps are part of the university's Widening Participation program which aims to increase aspiration for tertiary studies from schools in lower SES communities.
