Rising singer-songwriter and QUT music graduate Robbie Miller is returning to the university to headline the inaugural Murri-Ailan Way which will showcase Indigenous talent and culture.

The self-described folk musician, who likes to share a few stories in between playing his own songs, will take centre-stage at QUT's Gardens Point campus on August 7 as part of a three-day event.

"I love this stuff," he said. "With international students they don't often have the knowledge or opportunity to celebrate our people's culture."

The QUT alumnus won last year's coveted Triple J Unearthed National Indigenous Music Award for his single Don't Go Walking Away.

Mr Miller plans to release his first EP later this year in collaboration with friend and former QUT student Nathan Morrison.

The talented musician said his music degree gave him a strong grounding to face life's challenges post-university.

"University is golden as it teaches you how to learn and to think on your feet," he said.

While he pursues his musical ambitions he is also devoted to his day job as a Program Manager with the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience, based on the Gold Coast.

He said he looked forward to coming back to QUT for an event that promoted positive Indigenous culture.

"I think it's amazing a university puts on an event that's a positive step, one that will keep on building year after year," Mr Miller said.

More than 560 Indigenous students, including 70 post-graduates study at QUT.

The university also leads the National Indigenous Research and Knowledges Network which was established last year with $3.2 million in Australian Research Council funding.

Murri-Ailan Way will be coordinated by the university's Oodgeroo Unit.

Pride of Australia nominee and musician Chris Tamoy will also feature at the event.

Other activities and events is being held across QUT's Kelvin Grove, Gardens Point and Caboolture campuses from August 5-7.
