QUT has strengthened its place as Queensland's top sporting university with a golden performance at last week's Northern University Games.

The QUT Tigers claimed six of the 24 gold medals up for grabs, to be crowned Overall Champion University for 2014.

It's the second championship the team has won in as many years.

Around 240 QUT students took part in the games on the Sunshine Coast, in a fierce competition against 10 other universities from across Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Our baseball, men's basketball, women's tennis, men's touch football, mixed touch football and men's volleyball teams all secured gold.

Silver medals went to our beach volleyball, men's soccer, men's futsal, handball, women's netball, rugby union 7s, women's touch football, ultimate frisbee and women's volleyball teams.

Our women's soccer, ten pin and second beach volleyball teams won bronze.
The Tigers aren't about to rest on their laurels, though.

In September 24 Tigers will head to the University of Western Australia for the National Indigenous Tertiary Education Student Games and more than 300 Tigers will contest the Australian University Games (AUG) in Sydney.

QUT will be the top-ranked Queensland university at the AUG. In 2013 we won the coveted Spirit of the Games Award.
