MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS

- ABC Radio's PM program sought input from Professor Dietmar Hutmacher on 3D printing of human tissue.
- It seems many are downloading the latest US TV shows despite Netflix delaying its entry into Australia. Distinguished Professor Stuart Cunningham spoke about video streaming with Sydney radio station 2SER.
- Professor Ioni Lewis' research on the deadly risks of drink walking was reported by diverse publications including Health & Welbeing, Business Standard and the Armenian Medical Network.
- Fiona Willer told Australian Women's Weekly readers why some calorie-controlled frozen meal programs aren't nutritious and don't teach you long-term healthy eating strategies.
- Dr Carol Richards and Dr Jaz Hee-jeong Choi were part of a panel discussion at GOMA about food security, which was broadcast by ABC Radio National's Future Tense progam.
- A study by Professor Chris Eves on the effect of property prices following the 2011 floods was reported by AAP, ABC Radio, 4BC, Science Codex and news.com.au.
- Dr Mark Lauchs was featured on Channel 7's Flashback segment on Queensland's Underbelly, saying the Fitzgerald Report made Queensland a much fairer, honest and accountable state. Dr Lauchs also discussed Queensland's anti-corruption report card on 4BC, while ABC's PM sought his views on the private swearing-in ceremony of Queensland's new Chief Justice.
- Professor Colleen Nelson and the work she and her team are doing to fight prostate cancer was profiled by INTHEBLACK magazine.
- Professor Myles McGregor-Lowndes told Pro Bono Australia it will be a challenge to increase charitable giving in Australia.
- ABC listeners in New South Wales heard Dr Gary Mortimer explain why the ubiquitous loyalty card will be replaced by personalised app-based loyalty schemes.
- Associate Professor Phil Heywood commented on Channel 9 about the proposal to build a new suburb between The Gap and Upper Kedron.
- In the Jimboomba Times, justice academic John Mickel questioned the need for new Queensland laws requiring voters to show ID cards.
- International coverage of Distinguished Professor James Dale's African banana research project continued, with articles in Scientific American and E&E News.
- The winners from QUT's Indian International Film Festival of Queensland, of which Professor Arun Sharma is the honorary patron, were published widely in the Indian press including the Times of India and Box Office.
- Channel 9 and mX rallied behind the QUT film students who have made a star-studded documentary about depression and anxiety.
- Spatial industries magazine Position reported Dr Tim Foresman as QUT's new SIBA Chair in Spatial Information.
- Queensland's Education Minister praised QUT for partnering with the Out of the Box Festival to ensure it incorporates the latest early childhood education research and best practice in an article on BroadwayWorld.com.
- Dr Edwina Luck told the Fairfax Network the subtle rebranding of Queensland's iconic beer, XXXX, would be judged as a success if its existing customers weren't confused when they went looking to buy it.
- On behalf of QUT, Associate Professor Gene Moyle gave a touching tribute to international ballet sensation, the late Gailene Stock, in the Dance Australia publication.
- Kathleen Horton's historical look at the supermodel featured in Daily Life and Independent Online.
- Darryl Woodford and Katie Prowd's Conversation article about the World Cup smashing the Superbowl's sports viewing records in the US was picked up by Australian Business and LiveScience.
- Rachel Pedro explored the beat behind the World Cup, the Samba, in her article for The Conversation.
- Professor Brian McNair followed the fates of two international journalists facing prison in his column for The Conversation.
- Dr Megan Gibson's Conversation piece told the remarkable tale of how an Italian city started an early childhood education trend.
- Dr Rebecca English decribed the concept of democratic schooling in her article for The Conversation.

Top award for QUT cancer researcher. Research on the genetic biomarkers of prostate cancer aimed at improving early diagnosis of the cancer to enable targeted treatment, has won QUT geneticist Dr Jyotsna Batra a top Indian award.

QUT puts night-time vision problems in the spotlight. A new QUT study is looking to uncover why some people over the age of 50 find their vision falters after dark and what eye tests might help to identify those at risk.
