Is your creative soul withering in the harsh glare of office lighting?

QUT is throwing a lifeline to anyone who wants to ignite their creativity.

Its Creative Industries Faculty has launched a series of introductory short courses for people keen to:
- make the most of social media tools
- write their first novel
- develop their acting skills
- illustrate their fashion designs using industry software.

Designed and delivered by academics with strong industry experience, the short courses provide university-level training to the general public.

Dr Lee McGowan says his course, Stepping off a cliff: starting your first novel, is designed for writers beginning their novels and those whose novels have stalled.

"Many people believe that if they have a pen and paper they can write a novel but it takes more than that - it takes planning, discipline and hard work.

"In a one-day intensive, we explore the elements and techniques that underpin the novel-writing process.

"Contrary to popular belief, writer's block is not an inevitable part of that process.

"My speciality is motivating and energising writers and this course includes some solid techniques and strategies for keeping your momentum going."

QUT's Creative Industries Faculty is a world leader in arts, media and design teaching and research, with a proven track record in growing creative enterprises.

Its short courses begin in June.
