Professor Belinda Bennett has joined QUT's Health Law Research Centre as a research capacity-building professor.

Before joining QUT, Professor Bennett was Professor of Health and Medical Law at Sydney Law School where she taught for many years. She also spent several years as Director of Sydney Law School's Centre for Health Governance, Law and Ethics.

Professor Bennett's research focuses on the development of regulatory responses to new technologies in health care and the interface between social change, scientific developments and legal regulation. Her research also explores issues related to health law and globalisation.

Her publications include Health Law's Kaleidoscope: Health Law Rights in a Global Age and a co-edited book, Brave New World of Health.

Professor Bennett is the deputy editor of the Journal of Law and Medicine and is a member of the international editorial board of several other journals including the International Journal of Law in Context.

QUT Executive Dean of Law Professor John Humphrey said he was delighted that Professor Bennett had joined QUT's Health Law Research Centre.

"This is an exciting development for the Faculty and for the Health Law Research Centre and positions it as the leading research hub in this area in Australia," he said.

"Professor Bennett's expertise will greatly strengthen the Centre's global and public health domain."
