10th September 2012

Creative types who want to build a successful business can learn from world-class design, media, arts and financial experts at a Creative³ Forum at QUT this week.

The two-day forum, from September 13 to 14, includes keynote speakers Patrick van der Pijl, who has helped major American companies throw away business plans, Sydney design guru Vince Frost and jazz musician James Morrison.

YouTube Asia's Jean Huang Lundgren, Vince Bannon from Getty Images and Booktrack CEO Paul Cameron, who has created synchronised movie-style soundtracks for e-books, feature in the line-up of international and Australian speakers.

QUT Creative Enterprise Australia (CEA) chief executive officer Anna Rooke said the Creative³ forum, now in its third year, would discuss issues facing creative businesses, as well as trends and technologies.

"Creative³ is designed to bring together people working in the creative industries and those in the investment community to explore new finance models, opportunities to collaborate and advise on how to run a successful creative business," Ms Rooke said.

"This year's forum will build on the success of last year's event by again focusing on the three fundamental elements of creativity, enterprise and investment."

Ms Rooke said it was the first time Patrick van der Pijl had come to Australia. Van der Pijl is known for producing the book Business Model Generation, which has sold more than 380,000 copies worldwide and been translated into 24 languages.

The Dutch business innovation expert uses visual techniques and a 'business model canvas' to help businesses such as Microsoft and Intel, as well as start-up companies, find new ways of operating. His keynote speech is called 'Business as usual is dead'.

The winner of Creative³'s $100,000 prize package for new creative businesses will be announced during the forum.

Investment Marketplace finalists are: Caldwell Street Pty Ltd (Queensland), EasyOven (Queensland), Online Music Education (Victoria), ProGaming (Queensland) and Toggle Media (New South Wales).

Two-day forum tickets include keynote addresses, master classes, a Business Model Generation workshop and the Investment Marketplace pitching competition. Networking opportunities include an evening cocktail function at Brisbane Festival hosted in the Santos GLNG Lounge Bar, South Bank Cultural Forecourt, with private viewing platform for the City of Lights show.

Creative³ is presented by CEA, Australia's only creative incubator, which connects creative people with pathways to the marketplace through partnerships, new business models and access to capital.

The conference will be held at QUT's Creative Industries Precinct at Kelvin Grove. Full event and registration details are available at www.creative3.com.au.
