Queensland University of Technology (QUT) business students have been wowing experts and enjoying great success in international business case competitions this year.

QUT Business School international director Andrew Paltridge said students had taken out first place in two significant international business competitions, by coming up with strategies to help a Thai bank expand and a generic pharmaceutical drugs manufacturer deal with quality control issues.

"They recently won the Thammasat Undergraduate Business Challenge in Thailand and the Asian Business Case Competition at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, while they were placed second in the National University of Singapore DBS International Case Competition," he said.

"All up the QUT teams beat 20 other university teams from 11 different countries.

"The Thammasat Undergraduate Business Challenge is one of the best known undergraduate business competitions in Asia and it's a real feather in the cap for QUT business students to take out this award.

"By pitting themselves and their ideas against the best of their peers they're not only showing business professionals what they have to offer, but also getting valuable real world experience.

"The international business challenges are judged by leading business professionals including those from the companies upon which the challenge problems are based.

"Winning or coming second in an international challenge identifies QUT's students as being at the top of their game and helps set them up for a brilliant future."

He said three QUT students who had competed in the challenges were already reaping the benefits of their success having been picked to undertake prestigious AT Kearney internships over the summer.

"With QUT winning three of six internships available at this Sydney-based international management consulting firm, it's clear the experience the students gained by taking part in the business challenges was invaluable," Mr Paltridge said.

The three students who have been selected to undertake internships are Ben Dunphy of Toowong, Caroline Clarke of St Lucia and Erin Gregor of Ascot.
