Leading Brisbane fashion designer George Wu is lending his support to a Queensland University of Technology (QUT) fashion event to be held in Brisbane on October 15.

"Frock It" is a unique showcase of QUT student fashion, artwork, dance and interior design. Three of Wu's designs from his Spring/Summer collection will be modelled at the event, as well as a range of student designs.

"It is an event which isn't just about fashion," Mr Wu, himself a QUT graduate, said. "The event feels like part of the whole art scene, with people from various parts of QUT's Creative Industries willing to collaborate together.

"For any of us in a creative industry it is important to keep an eye on anything else that's creative. In making my collection, I don't just look at fashion trends. I consider interiors, photography, music, and art - anything creative that inspires me."

The fashion parade at Frock It will showcase student designs from the Fleet Store. The Fleet Store is the first dedicated fashion shop to be opened by an Australian university. The store, located in the Wintergarden in Queen Street, features the work of current QUT students, as well as up-and-coming designers.

"The quality of the student's designs is really good," said Mr Wu. "There is a great exploration of textiles, and different ways to cut fabric, and finishings. It is quite inspiring how creative they can be."

Frock It is a free event being organised by final year QUT student Edda Hamar and former student Joshua Adams.

"By bringing together the fashion and design schools, as well as it being a public event, the students can generate exposure within the university, and they will also be able to network with industry and business professionals that could provide future employment," Ms Hamar said.

Ms Hamar would like to pursue a career in events management when she finishes her degree at the end of this year.

"Before graduation, I wanted to utilise everything I've learned and contacts I've gained to create something I could look back on. I wanted it to be something I've brought together from my experience at QUT - not just a degree on a piece of paper but something tangible and 'real world'," she said.

The event will be held at Lightspace, in Fortitude Valley.

"Lightspace itself is a really cool space," Mr Wu said. "And there's going to be artwork and student-designed furniture, as well as music in the background. So it should be an inspiring event for any creative individuals who attend."

Frock It will take place at 7:30pm on Friday, October 15 at Lightspace, 30 Light Street, Fortitude Valley.
