Queensland University of Technology professor in Industrial Design Vesna Popovic has again been invited to join the judging panel of the world's largest and most prestigious design competition in Singapore in July.

Professor Popovic, who is director of QUT's People and Systems Lab in the School of Design, said she was delighted to be invited for the second time to be part of the international jury for the award which last year attracted more than 12,000 entries from 60 countries.

She will be one of the judges of the Award's design concept category which seeks emerging design ideas that are going to shape our future in such areas as interaction and communication, mobility, health, recreation, work and productivity.

"I am excited about being a juror again in the design concept category as finding and developing design talent is what I am involved in at QUT's School of Design . It is a fascinating and valuable experience to be surrounded by the world's best," Professor Popovic said.

"The panel is made up of international designers and design experts from all over the world to decide upon the winning designs which receive the sought-after 'Red Dot' award.

"Last year I was impressed by the work submitted by companies, Individual designers and design students. The organisation of the judging process was exceptional as well as discussion among the judges.

"The Red Dot competition gives us a view of trends and future design directions as well as innovation and an insight into new uses for technology.

"It is important for designers and companies to explore and experiment as novel concepts are significant for differentiation in the global market."
