Rowena, resident of Brisbane aged care community BallyCara

Research from Associate Professor Evonne Miller that found residents from Scarborough’s BallyCara aged care retirement village (like Rowena, pictured right) were some of the happiest in the country was covered by The Sunday Mail.

Professor Matthew Rimmer’s expertise was in high demand after Donald Trump rejected the Trans-Pacific Partnership, including from GT Review, ABC Brisbane, Radio Adelaide and Business Acumen. His views were also referenced by The Huffington Post.

ABC Brisbane also spoke to Associate Professor Mark Lauchs about ID scanners in pubs.

Radio National’s PM chatted to Lazaros Kastanis about the future of virtual reality technology.

News that Emeritus Professor Ray Frost (pictureed below) had been appointed an officer of the Order of Australia (AO) was covered by 7 News as well as Campus Morning Mail, 2SM, 4WK and 2HD.

Associate Professor Gary Mortimer’s Conversation article on why Australian supermarkets continue to look to the UK for leadership was republished by Food & Beverage. And 9 News asked Professor Mortimer about the closure of Myer Brookside.

Professor Paula McDonald featured in a Radio National Drive story about unpaid work.

QUT’s inclusion in the Graduate Management Association of Australia’s MBA five star providers was covered in Campus Morning Mail.

Associate Professor Sue Irvine’s warning prep was becoming too focused on academic work was published by Early Learning Review and News Corp papers including the Adelaide Advertiser.
 

Dr Cassandra Cross told The Senior older love seekers are more at risk of falling victim to romance fraud.

Science Daily, Science Newsline and My Informs reported on Oscar Oviedo-Trespalacios’ research into why some people slow down when using mobile phones in cars and some don’t.

The Sunshine Coast Daily spoke to Adjunct Professor Robert Biggar about his research into testicular cancer rates in cool climates.

Dynamic Business and Sunshine Coast Daily named QUT Creative Enterprise Australia as one of four accelerators working with the Queensland Government to support startups.

WIN News sought David Rodwell’s road safety expertise for a story about the full impact of road crashes. 

The Redcliffe and Bayside Herald ran a story about QUT Creative Industries student Elizabeth Brown who is a Qld finalist for the title of Miss Galaxy Australia Charity Quest.

Professor Ian Mackinnon (pictured below) told Renew Economy about the partnership between QUT and Japan’s Sumitomo Electric Industries to trial and develop large-scale renewable energy generation and battery storage technologies.

Arts Hub referenced research from QUT’s Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies that found a lack of company board understanding about fundraising was the number one challenge for fundraisers.

Ozgur Dedehayir, Carol Richards and Peter O'Connor wrote an article for The Conversation about veganism and why people should consider throwing a vegie pattie on the BBQ for Australia Day rather than meat. The piece was reprinted by SBS online.

A new QUT study into the proposed routes for the third stage of a light rail on the Gold Coast was reported on by News Corp publications and 4CRB FM.

Quest Newspapers including City North News ran a story on the educational benefits of performing arts and other extra-curricular activities which quoted Arts education chair Professor Judith McLean.

The South West News and Westside News reported on a research project led by Professor Gerard Fitzgerald to assess the ongoing health impacts of the 2011 Queensland floods.

The obituary of inspirational former QUT staff member and alumnus Dr Joan Faoagali Gwynne was in The Courier-Mail.
