Award-winning journalist and QUT alumnus Peter Greste will share his extraordinary story, personal experiences and beliefs at the next QUT Learning Potential Fund Breakfast on Thursday, November 10.
Mr Greste spent 22 years as a foreign correspondent covering conflicts in Africa and the Middle East, but in 2013 he was arrested - along with Al Jazeera journalists - by Egyptian authorities and tried, convicted and sentenced in a trial widely condemned as a travesty of justice.
He is now a devoted campaigner for freedom of speech and an advocate for journalists imprisoned around the world.
In his address, 'Resilience and the Human Spirit', he will share how he became one of Australia's most recognisable foreign correspondents.
This public event will be held at QUT's Room Three Sixty (Gardens Point campus) to raise funds and awareness for QUT's Learning Potential Fund, which provides scholarships and bursaries to students from diverse backgrounds who face financial hardship.
Guests will also have the opportunity to hear from QUT Learning Potential Fund recipient Ezekiel Nimpaye, about the transformational power of education, and the impact that the Learning Potential Fund scholarship has had on his life.
