Is coral a rainmaker? QUT mission investigates

Is coral a rainmaker? Scientific voyage to Great Barrier Reef investigates: A world-first, scientific voyage to study the air over the Great Barrier Reef aims to determine if coral creates rain. Professor Zoran Ristovski from QUT’s Science and Engineering Faculty, is leading the multinational team of scientists on the first-ever study of airborne particles (aerosols) on the Great Barrier Reef, one of the world’s biggest ecosystems.

Brightest global minds brainstorm innovation ideas at QUT: QUT has been selected to host the MIT Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp at Gardens Point campus in Brisbane in March, 2017.

Magnetic wrist replacement attracts top innovation prize: A wrist replacement that uses the power of magnets to return quality of life to sufferers of wrist pain has taken first prize in the 2016 qutbluebox $250,000 Innovation Challenge.

Is coral a rainmaker? QUT mission investigates
Professor Zoran Ristovski (pictured) and his team’s world-first research project on board the CSIRO’s RV Investigator to confirm coral reef create rain was featured on ABC TV News, ABC 24,  Radio National’s PM program, Radio Australia, ABC online, ABC News’ Facebook page and Audio Boom.
ABC’s Catalyst spoke to Brett Lewis about his and Dr Luke Nothdurft’s coral bleaching research and The Guardian used the researchers’ footage.
- NAB boss Andrew Thorburn’s appearance at the QUT Business Leaders’ Forum was covered by The Australian, The Courier Mail, Australian Financial Review and AAP. And his performance was mentioned in The Courier Mail’s City Beat column and the AFR’s Rear Window.
Emeritus Professor Bill Caelli was interviewed by 7 News Brisbane, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne about Apple store employees allegedly stealing photos from customers’ phones, and by 5AA on foreign powers attacking Australia using internet infrastructure. Following news that the Prime Minister had been using What’s App for messaging, Prof Caelli also told Fairfax outlets including the Brisbane Times that cabinet communications should happen on a secure device or not at all.
Professor Matthew Rimmer was also interviewed b10 News about the Apple scandal and privacy laws.
- The announcement by Chuck Feeney of another $50M donation from Atlantic Therapies to Australian partners including QUT for a social equity leadership program made news in the Australian Financial Review and Radio 4KIG Townsville’s Murri Voices.
Associate Professor Gary Mortimer talked to the Sydney Morning Herald about junk food at checkouts, to 9 News Brisbane about online shopping declining, to Smart Company about the Masters sites and ‘fair price’ logos on milk, 7 News about the increasing popularity of fashion warehouses and 9 News story about factory outlets.
- The announcement that MIT will run a Global Entrepreneurship Boot Camp at QUT next QUT is conducting a trial into patches that aim to prevent sunburnyear was covered by The Australian’s Higher Education pages and Startup Daily.
  - Dr Elke Hacker’s sunscreen patch (pictured) that alerts wearers to fading sunscreen continued to make news, on 612 ABC Breakfast, ABC Far North and ABC North West Queensland, ABC Online, Gold Coast Bulletin, APN papers, and international media including The Times of India.
Dr Chrisann Palm spoke to the Sunday Mail about the reasons behind the fall in retirees’ incomes.
The  Morning Bulletin and Dalby Herald carried a letter to the editor calling for people to take part in the QUT Australian Centre for Health Law Research’s study on what they know about end-of-life law.
Dr Monique Mann’s piece for The Conversation on how to protect your emails from spies was republished by the Fairfax network and ABC Online.
Dr Esther Lau's research into symptoms of dry eye featured in the Australian Journal of Pharmacy.
Dr Andrea Blake featured in a 7 News story on concerns infrastructure won’t keep up with increased units, saying the only way to ease congestion is by encouraging people to use more public transport.
Professor Graham Kerr joined a grand debate at the International Congress of Physiotherapy and Movement in Spain, which was streamed live on Twitter across the globe.
Professor Brian McNair wrote a piece for The Conversation on how Donald Trump is once again taking on the media but is unlikely to beat Hilary Clinton come election time.
Peter Black joined host Spencer Howson on 612 ABC Breakfast for his regular Tuesday morning technology segment.
Professor Marilyn Campbell discussed the creepy clown craze arriving in Australia with ABC Newcastle (@5.33) ABC Gold Coast and 666 ABC Canberra.
Nature & Health interviewed Professor Lyn Griffiths about her work mapping the genes involved in common human disorders.
Dr Rachel Feeney’s national study on the community’s understanding of the law relating to end-of-life issues was reported by Northern Miner and the High Country Herald.
Dr Anne-Frances Watson spoke to 612 ABC Drive about ideas of sexuality.
Nine MSN referenced research from Dr Guido Zuccon in a story on self-diagnosis via Google.
- The Southern Star reported on the CSIRO-QUT UAV Airborne Delivery Challenge.
QUT Professor Selena BartlettRadio 4EB interviewed Professor Selena Bartlett (pictured) on their Women's Profile show about her new book on being a woman in her competitive field of neuroscience.
 - A review by QUT’s Commercial and Property Law Research Centre on body corporate governance was mentioned in the Gold Coast Bulletin and Fraser Coast Chronicle.
- The Australian Financial Review carried a story on Queensland’s HotDesQ which has lured New Yor’s TimeLooper start-up to QUT’s Creative Enterprise Australia.
QUT Creative Industries’ third collaboration with puppetmaker Daniele Poidomani the next Woodfood Festival was run by the APN papers.
- Research findings on high cholesterol causing bone loss by Dr Indira Prasadam was reported by a large number of US Indian news sites.
- Dr Guido Zuccon’s research on cyberchonria was mentioned in a story on MSN NZ.
Professor Brian McNair’s article for The Conversation on Donald Trump versus the media was run by the Daily Bulletin.
