Author accolades for QUT mammal expert: A world expert in carnivorous marsupials has been acknowledged with the prestigious Whitley Medal for a book he co-wrote with a team of Australian and international researchers.

Overseas heavyweight sports retailers take on Australian market: Two giant international sports retailers are set to enter the ring in Australia, lured by a strong and growing trend for health and wellbeing, exercise and outdoor activity.

Dementia care revamp to improve services nationwide: Health care workers will gain better knowledge and skills to cope with the increasing numbers of Australians living with dementia with a new national system starting next month, says a leading expert in aged care.

Living gene bank to help save wild koalas: A $1.8 million partnership between The University of Queensland, QUT and Dreamworld will see the Gold Coast theme park’s zoological department used as living koala genome bank to save the threatened species.

Float into QUT to experience new Physics Observatory at The Cube: Love the idea of floating through space these school holidays?   The Cube at QUT’s Gardens Point campus has unveiled its latest attraction – The Physics Observatory – which soars across two storeys of high-tech screens.

- QUT PhD student and IT alumnus David Poxon spoke to Sunrise, ABC News24, ABC Brisbane Breakfast, ABC Southern Queensland, David Poxon_Velvet_2Australia Plus, The Drum, Brisbane Times, Reckoner, Australian Business Network, The Guardian, DailyMail, Tempo and Technology Champ about his startup which helps people sell their unused internet data.
- 9 News and Queensland Times ran a story about school students taking part in the QUT and CSIRO UAV Airborne Delivery Challenge, which featured Professor Jonathan Roberts. Toowoomba radio 4WK and Polish website Dlspilota reported the upcoming UAV Medical Challenge.
- 7 News featured The Cube’s new Physics Observatory in a story on the best, cheap school holiday activities in Brisbane. Sean Druitt even made 7’s promo advertisement.
- Professor Brian McNair discussed the importance of local media outlets in regional communities with ABC TV News, Radio Australia and ABC Western Queensland.
- Dr Nigel Stobbs was on ABC News and ABC Radio News commenting about TV cameras in courtrooms. The story also ran on TVTonight.
- Senior lecturer Kim Johnston was in a Sydney Morning Herald and Brisbane Times story on how Skittles handled Donald Trump Junior’s refugee claim.
- The Courier-Mail sought Dr David Willis’ comments on the potential privatising of Queensland Investment Corp.
- Associate Professor Mia Woodruff and her team’s crowdfunding project to create 3D-printed ears for kids continued to receive widespread coverage including ABC Evenings statewide, Gizmodo, NITV Sydney, The Australian, across the News Corp and Australian Regional Media networks, 2GB  and international websites HighBeam Research and iCrowdNewswire.
- Dr Thierry Peynot talked to ABC Rural about driverless trucks for Queensland’s underground mining sector. Funding for the QUT research project was announced in Mining Engineering Online.  Associate Professor Michael Milford also featured in an AutoTalk article and 4ZZZ ran a story on the funding.
Associate Professor Molly Dragiewicz- QUT’s Graduate Certificate in Domestic Violence, led by Associate Professor Molly Dragiewicz (pictured), was included in The Australian’s round-up of education upgrades.
- Associate Professor Gary Mortimer commented on the idea of self-driving shopping carts in supermarkets in Startup Smart. He told the New Daily Coles and Woolworths should use 1970s-style tactics to fight Aldi’s influence.
- RN’s Future Tense featured Dean Brough and Dr Alice Payne’s kombucha clothing research, including a video on RN’s Facebook page.
- Campus Morning Mail mentioned Academy of Social Sciences appointments for Professors Kerry Carrington and David Kavanagh.
- Campus Morning Mail, the Financial Review and News Corp websites reported on QUT’s involvement in developing a living koala genome bank.
- QUT’s Dr Amisha Mehta was named the Public Relations Institute of Australia’s PR Educator of the Year. The story appeared in Influencing News.
- Professor Lyn English, Professor in STEM Education, talked about the importance of engineering in the primary years and the resources available to teachers in Teacher Magazine.
- Dr Esther Lau spoke to the Australian Journal of Pharmacy about pharmacists supplying a third party with the emergency contraceptive pill.
- PhD candidate Katherine Kirkwood talked to Smart Company about a new breed of snack food entrepreneurs blending healthy food with convenience.
- Yahoo News featured a study by QUT, Cambridge and Sussex researchers which found traders who have a sixth sense are more successful in the financial markets.
- Australian Ageing Agenda mentioned Professor Elizabeth Beattie’s involvement in the $27.9 million Dementia Training Australia program, and reported on Dr Elaine Fielding’s researching into the quality of Australian respite care.
- LOTL ran PhD student Daniel Demant’s call for participants in his study of substance abuse in LGBT young adults.
- The New Daily and Sky News mentioned university ranking changes including QUT’s.
- Susan Hetherington talked theatre on ABC Brisbane’s Breakfast.
Is 40 the new 50? Push for a new national local street speed- A call by Dr Mark King and Marina Alexander (pictured) for a nationwide local street speed limit of 40km/h ran in the Caboolture Shire Herald.
- QUT koala chlamydial vaccines were mentioned on ABC Radio Evenings.
- Dr Henri Burgers and Dr Charmaine Glavas penned a piece titled Australia has internationalisation problem – not an innovation and R&D one which ran on the Conversation and StartUp Smart.
- QUT student Maddison Scott’s news report on school zones speed limited to 40 km/hr was played on ABC Brisbane radio breakfast and mention also made of the regular student bulletin on Briz31.
