CreateX Festival – QUT’s public housewarming party will blow your mind: The public CreateX all-ages festival at QUT's Creative Industries Precinct this Sunday (August 28) will feature the latest immersive 3-D experiences, shine a light on the mystery of the creative process through 60 interactive events (performances, talks and workshops), and culminate in a free concert featuring alumni such as Kate Miller-Heidke, Naomi Price, Carita Farrer Spencer, DeepBlue and Michelle Ryan.

Creative industries key to robot-proofing jobs of the future: As the workforce becomes increasingly automated, jobs requiring creative and emotional intelligence will be the most robot-proof according to QUT Distinguished Professor Stuart Cunningham.

Music industry legend bows out in style with QUT CreateX festival: He was close to Beatles producer George Martin, partied with seminal 70s-era artists, produced punk group The Stranglers, was on the creative music team for James Bond film Live and Let Die and has influenced and inspired countless budding Brisbane musicians.

Caught in the act - coral bleaching as it happens

Brett Lewis and Dr Luke Nothdurft’s amazing time-lapse footage of coral bleaching has taken the world by storm including National Geographic, Gizmodo, Nature World News, Smithsonian, International Business Times, The Washington Post, IFLScience, Mental Floss, Canada’s CTV, Fairfax sites, Business Insider, Mashable and 4BC.
- IT students Austin Wilshire and Bernd Hartzer caught the attention of media including EFTM, 2UE, news.com.au, Daily Mail Australia, 612 ABC,  Business Insider and My Informs after winning the QUT Code Network club’s winter hack-a-thon for coming up with a Cloud-based Census website design that couldn’t be overloaded.
ArchitectureAU profiled the expansion of the QUT Creative Industries Precinct and the CreateX festival. Dance Australia and Weekend Notes also ran stories on the event, while Finance Career spoke to Distinguished Professor Stuart Cunningham about the value of creativity skills.
Professor Chris EvesProfessor Chris Eves (pictured) spoke to the Australian Financial Review about Brisbane apartment prices, with the story also running on Domain and The Property Observer. He was also in The New Daily where he suggested parents give their kids advice rather than money to help them get into the property market.
- Campus Morning Mail wrote about "the tallest of the tall poppies" - award winner Dr Makrina Totsika.
AAP Newswire and the Herald Sun ran stories on the AusPollen Partnership and Associate Professor Janet Davies. She was also on Channel 9 news and Health Times.
Professor Kerry Carrington was on ABC TV 7.30 discussing youth detention violence in North Queensland, with excerpts also on ABC News in Alice Springs, Canberra and Hobart. She was also interviewed by The Courier Mail about a porn site targeting Brisbane school girls and was quoted in another story on the subject in the International Business Times.
Associate Professor Jane Shakespeare-Finch was interviewed by ABC 612 Drive about the lasting impacts on girls and women who had their images posted and shared on such sites.
Dr Cassandra Cross (pictured) was interviewed for ABC TV News about the scam that cost Brisbane City Council almost $500,000, and was also on ABC NewsRadio and ABC Radio Australia.
Dr Cassandra Cross- Associate Professor Linda Graham told the Courier-Mail Queensland’s education system was pushing curriculum into kids before they’re ready.
The Courier-Mail also sought the expertise of Adjunct Associate Professor John Mickel for its story on Queensland’s Estimates process.
The Australian mentioned QUT’s involvement in an Australian Technology Universities robotics project for the Commonwealth Bank.
APN newspapers including Seniors News ran a good news story about 61-year-old Prisilla Misaka Soro who recently graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Human Services.
ABC Radio Australia quoted Professor Douglas Baker on why some Australian cities have been named among the world’s most liveable.
ABC PM interviewed Dr Jodi Death for a story on child protection laws.
- Bunions, corns, leg and lower back problems – that’s what wearing heels all day with give you, Associate Professor Lloyd Reed told Huffington Post Australia.
- News Corp's Redcliffe and Bayside Herald ran a story on the late Sir Manuel Hornibrook who was inducted into the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame.
Oman Tribune spoke to Professor Jean Burgess about the plight of gorilla Harambe and internet memes.
Kids in the City chose The Cube’s Dino Zoo as its third top science holiday stopover destination in Australia.
Professor Jonathan Roberts was interviewed on 612 ABC’s Drive program about drones and robotic applications in healthcare.
Narelle Haworth- CARRS-Q director Professor Narelle Haworth (pictured) talked about phones and driving with ABC Southern Queensland and was in a Gladstone Observer article on the International Conference on Traffic Transport Psychology.
ABC North West Qld held a panel discussion that included Dr Honor Hugo as part of National Science Week regional tour. He was also interviewed by the North West Star.
Campus Review and Business Daily highlighted QUT’s jump in this year’s research-based Academic Ranking of World Universities.
Krash liked QUT’s tactic of countering exam stress with ping pong, puppies and pancakes.
QUT researchers figured in Women’s Agenda’s story on the 29 finalists for the Women in Technology Awards.
Get Farming wrote about the Plant Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre’s fruit fly work in the lead up to an international conference in Malaysia and quoted QUT’s Dr Mark Schutze.
- ‘What’s better than one diffractometer? Two!’ LabOnline was impressed with QUT’s Central Analytical Research Facility’s latest additions.
- QUT’s Caboolture Open Day was flagged in the Bribie Weekly, Glasshouse Country News and Caboolture News.
- Dr Bernd Ploderer co-authored a Conversation article on nap apps. The story was picked up by Stuff.co.nz.
- Dr Karen Vella’s Conversation article about a region in Florida helping the state adapt to climate change was republished by Business Insider and  News Pronto.
The Conversation and Smart Company ran a piece by Dr Shahid M Shahiduzzaman, Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz, and Professor Rowena Barrett about the most effective ways for businesses to use new technology.
- PhD candidate Rido Parulian Panjaitan wrote a piece for The Conversation on mob violence, which was reprinted by Business Daily.
