Industry excellence and humanitarian effort characterise QUT Outstanding Alumni Awardees: Versatile award-winning composer and performer Kate Miller-Heidke is QUT’s Alumnus of the Year and the Creative Industries Faculty Outstanding Alumni Award winner.

Indigenous education leader named QUT 2016 Young Alumnus of the Year: When Jessa Rogers stands before a class of Indigenous students, addresses an education conference or mentors teachers to inspire Indigenous achievement, she speaks from lived experience.

Podiatry pioneer named QUT’s Outstanding Alumni Award winner for Faculty of Health: A pioneer in the field of podiatry, Greg Dower, is this year's winner of QUT’s Outstanding Alumni Award for the Faculty of Health - and has also been honoured with a special excellence award.

Nutritionist wins QUT Outstanding Alumni Special Excellence Award: Best known for designing the 3-minute nutrition screening tool to help identify those at risk of malnutrition, Singaporean Dr Lim Su Lin has been named winner of a QUT Outstanding Alumni Special Excellence Award at a ceremony in Brisbane.

Inspiring educator named QUT's Outstanding Alumni Award winner for the Faculty of Education: Accomplished and respected educator and leader Maryanne Walsh has won QUT’s Outstanding Alumni Award for the Faculty of Education.

Humanitarian named QUT's Outstanding Alumni Award winner for Business School: Boasting 23 years of international experience spanning foreign policy, international development and strategic defence, humanitarian and Bachelor of Business Management graduate Caitlin Wilson has been named the 2016 winner of QUT’s Outstanding Alumni Award for the Business School at a ceremony in Brisbane.

Border Force Commissioner named QUT's Outstanding Alumni Award winner for the Faculty of Law: Australia’s first Australian Border Force Commissioner responsible for protecting the country’s physical frontline, Roman Quaedvlieg, has received QUT’s Outstanding Alumni Award for the Faculty of Law.

IT guru named QUT’s Outstanding Alumni Award winner for Science and Engineering Faculty: With a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship and the technical know-how to build a successful online business, IT guru Richard Eastes has been named the winner of the QUT Outstanding Alumni Award for the Science and Engineering Faculty.

Aldi has led the way for a Lidl competition in the supermarket wars: Aldi’s success in Australia has opened the door for another direct competitor, Lidl, now that Australian shoppers understand and trust the discounter model and house brands, says retail expert Associate Professor Gary Mortimer from QUT’s School of Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations.

Make your own vegan leather fashion at QUT festival: In a world in which petro-chemicals have a finite life and concerns are growing about the treatment of animals, QUT’s fashion students are creating cutting edge clothes from homemade ‘vegan leather’.

Light and caffeine improve driver alertness: CARRS-Q study: Bright light combined with caffeine can improve driving performance and alertness of chronically sleep deprived young drivers, according to a QUT road safety study.bronte and cate campbell - swimming

QUT celebrates Olympic gold: Three QUT students – Brittany Elmslie, Cate Campbell and Bronte Campbell, all members of the QUT Elite Athlete program – have already brought home gold and a new world record on Sunday in the 4x100m freestyle event with team member Emma McKeon.

People not technology will drive success of autonomous vehicles: As the world moves closer to autonomous and self-driving vehicles, road safety experts are turning from technology to psychology to better understand the road to safer mobility, according Professor Narelle Haworth, director of QUT’s Centre for Accident Research & Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q).

Why parents are the new “heroes” in policing young drivers: Parents are vital in encouraging their children to obey the road rules and young drivers are keen to show their parents they can be trusted, which means they may hold greater power in enforcing driver restrictions compared with traditional policing, according to QUT research.
