Caught in the act - coral bleaching as it happens

Caught in the act: first videos of coral bleaching behaviour: Coral researchers have for the first time captured the specific behaviour of a coral as it’s bleaching.

QUT researchers finalists for 2016 Eureka Prizes: A chief investigator and a research team at the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision, hearquartered at QUT, are finalists for the 2016 Australian Museum Eureka Prizes.

Education discipline wars and the missing ‘E’ in STEM, argues QUT researcher: A leading QUT education researcher is warning of “discipline wars” among educators trying to lift Australian standards in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields - with engineering facing defeat.

QUT artist works Over Many Horizons: QUT Senior Research Fellow Dr Keith Armstrong has a significant solo exhibition showing at the University of Technology (UTS) Art Gallery, Sydney.

Fright night: Australia’s creepy census threatens privacy and our civil liberties: Census 2016 has been described as ‘creepy’ by QUT privacy expert Professor Matthew Rimmer because ‘it invades every corner of our lives and fails to provide anonymity - a basic principle of privacy’.

Dr Ernest Foo (pictured) warned of the Census website crashing due to hackers, with stories running in the Courier MailThe Herald Sun, Daily Telegraph and across thenews.com network as well as in The Vine.
Business Insider ran a lengthy piece on all the issues around the failure of the Census which included a link to comments onnews.com.au by security expert Professor Matthew Rimmer.He was also quoted in an article in the Daily Telegraph andLifehacker.
Dr Monique Mann was interviewed by ABC News Radioregarding the Census and said in today’s digitally insecure world not supplying your name to someone is no guarantee of anonymity.
Emeritus Professor Bill Caelli was also interviewed across ABC radio about the Census.
Brett Lewis’ video documenting coral behaviour during bleaching was popular across the News Corp network, including the Weekend Post in Cairns and The Australian. The video also featured internationally, including e! Science NewsMail On Sunday and Breitbart.
The Weekend Australian reported on Distinguished Professor Stuart Cunningham's views that true innovation requires creative and business skills as well as STEM skills.
Public Now featured the Creative Industries Faculty’s upcoming CreateX festival.
Dean Brough and Dr Alice Payne’s kombucha fashion research, which will be on show at CreateX, was reported by Noosa News.

- A preview of Queensland’s Futures Summit featured in The Courier Mail with Professor Jonathan Roberts and robotic vision.
Associate Professor Patrik Wikstrom discussed the popular Musical.ly app with The Courier-Mail.
ABC Online featured Professor Tom Cooper’s YuMi Deadly program and the benefits it’s delivering to Indigenous maths students.
The Morning Bulletin discussed voting behaviour in the Queensland seats of Keppel and Mirani and Pauline Hanson’s comeback with Professor Clive Bean.
Dr Stephen Hughes and his colleagues showed Atlas of Science how sauropods could have used siphons to pump blood 12 metres to their brains.
Susan Hetherington talked theatre on ABC Radio and ABC Online.
Campus Morning Mail reported on research by Professor Lyn English (pictured) research showing schools are forgetting to teach the 'engineering' in 'STEM'.

Smart Company reported on QUT CEA appointing former David Jones CEO Paul Zahra as an advisor and mentor.
Car Advice and the Australian Regional Media network of papers quoted Professor Narelle Haworth from QUT’s CARRS-Q on the race to develop fully driverless systems. She also spoke to ARM about complacent drivers.
My Sunshine Coast reported on the five inaugural winners of the Creator Original prizes; an initiative of You Tube, the Qld Government, QUT and Griffith University.
2UE and The Daily Telegraph reported on Dr Shamsi Shekari’s study on the effects of bright light and caffeine on chronically sleep deprived young drivers.
- The ABC Gold Coast Drive program featured a story on the EKKA fashion parade which included designs by QUT fashion students.
Dr Edwina Luck spoke to ABC Central West NSW for its Shop Talk Expert segment about the lack of Olympics-related merchandise available as well as Olympic TV commercials.
- Melbourne’s Weekly Times featured a story on QUT CARRS-Q research on the impact of lowering the P-plate licensing age.
