International experts will meet in Brisbane to share the latest in road safety research with the aim of reducing the global road toll.

The 2016 International Conference on Traffic and Transport Psychology (ICTTP2016) is being hosted by QUT’s Centre for Accident Research & Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q) in partnership with Griffith University’s Menzies Health Institute Queensland from August 2-5.

CARRS-Q director Professor Narelle Haworth said the conference theme was the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety: The Half-way Point.

“This year marks the half-way point of the UN Decade of Action, a global initiative that brings together more than 70 countries in a united effort to reduce traffic crashes and the global road toll,” Professor Haworth said.

“At the half-way point it is important that we not only reflect on the global achievements already made but to re-focus our energies on ensuring that it is a decade of action, not just in name.

“The conference will bring the Decade of Action to Brisbane in a very dynamic way, with more than 300 traffic psychologists, researchers, and safety experts meeting to discuss and showcase the latest findings in international programs, policy, and development.

Key risk factors such as speeding, drink driving and motorcycle safety will be discussed, together with topical issues such as intelligent transport systems, sustainable transport initiatives, youth risky behavior and road safety in developing countries.
