Young and well educated men in demand as sperm donors in global life market: With commercial sperm banking giving women more opportunities to become mothers, a world-first QUT study has found the age and education of sperm donors are the most important characteristics considered.

How hitchhikers are building Australia’s reef and marine life: An ongoing study by a QUT PhD ecologist is finding future pumice-producing volcanic eruptions across the Pacific are likely to help build coral reefs and add to Australia’s marine biodiversity, even as ocean temperatures warm.

- A world-first study by Stephen Whyte and Professor Benno Torgler on sperm donors was reported by media including The Courier Mail, Herald Sun, Daily Telegraph, Huffington Post Australia, Mamamia, the Australian Regional Media network, Medical Daily, e! Science News, DRadio Wissen and The Medical News.
Dr Matthew Phillips’ study that challenged the scientific theory that mammals diversified 20 million years before dinosaurs became extinct received global attention in publications including Asian Scientist, Science Newsline, Latest Technology, Science Daily, Global News Connect, Archaeology News Network and 4ZZZ.
- Dr Edwina Luck told ABC TV News and online a new cashless café which opened in Chamindie Punyadeera_6Brisbane’s CBD was a sign of things to come. The story also ran on MSN, MSN NZ, Shanghai Daily and The Daily Reckoning.
- 7News nationally featured Professor Chamindie Punyadeera (pictured) and her ‘saliva is the new blood test’ research and international symposium.
- ABC Radio National’s AWAYE! program ran an interview with Distinguished Professor Aileen Moreton-Robinson about a life spent exploring racism and power and what it means to be a ‘Distinguished’ professor.
- ABC News reported on a study by QUT PhD ecologist Eleanor Velasquez on how pieces of coral "pumice rafting" could help establish new reefs.
- Associate Professor Linda Graham told the Courier Mail that high childcare costs were contributing to parents enrolling their children at school too young. Her comments also appeared in articles in The Herald Sun, The Advertiser, Daily Telegraph and NT News.
- Associate Professor Mark Lauchs commented in a Channel 10 story about a police probe that found no evidence of widespread cultural problems within the Queensland police service.
- Dr Sebastien Demmel’s research into driverless cars was part of a NewsCorp story on Australia being at the forefront of this technology.
- $100,000+ Innovation Challenge winnersProfessor Clive Bean spoke to ABC’s Steve Austin about voter trust and to Australian Regional Media about the likelihood we’ll be going back to the polls.
- The Courier Mail featured a story about QUT alumni start-up Clipchamp (pictured), which is eyeing off a global expansion after securing $1.45 million in funding including from qutbluebox.
Professor Karen Thorpe’s US conference presentation on mothers needing more ‘me-time’ was published by the APN network.
- Michael Klaehn joined ABC to talk social media news.
- Professor Duncan Campbell gave ABC 612Brisbane weekend mornings an update on the use of UAVs and conventional aircraft regulations and their future airspace integration.
- Mamamia featured a piece on the new morning after pill penned by QUT academics Dr Esther Lau, Professor Greg Kyle, Dr Manuel Serrano Santos, Professor Lisa Nissen and Dr Yasmin Antwertinger.
- Student recruitment manager Leanne Cain talked to Brisbane News and The Courier Mail's Careers section about study options and open days.
- Gizmodo Australia talked up The Cube’s 2015 digital writing residency projects Cryptext and Nomencluster.
- Gizmodo also featured Associate Professor Robert Perrons’ findings that petrol-powered vehicles will still dominate the Australian car market in 2030, as did High Beam.
- Neandergeek rated QUT’s social media analytics MOOC as one of its top 10 globally for July.Dr Stephen Harrington
- Dr Stephen Harington (pictured) had his Conversation article discussing the state of political satire in Australia republished by Australian Business. It was also the subject of an interview on 2ser Sydney.
- Sheona Thomson had a feature on M3architecture: sites of transformation published in Architecture Australia.
- Public Now reported on QUT’s New Colombo Plan partnership with Mitsui.
- MSN in the US mentioned Dr Tony Shield’s cryotherapy research in an article about the FDA warning the public against such treatments.
- Mike Willmett talked portfolio careers with the NZ Herald.
- QUT alumni were in the media, with Damian Griffiths' business venture Doughnut Time featured across the Fairfax network, Dr Angela Slatter’s debut fantasy novel Vigil in QWeekend, and teacher Kasey-Michelle Curwen in the Queensland Times.
- 4EB Radio ran an interview with fashion designer and student Alexandra Bell.
Dr Kate Letheren and Dr Charmaine Glavas’ Conversation article on how robots can help a new businesses grow was republished by Business Daily and Lifehacker Australia.
- Dr Sue Irvine published a piece in The Conversation on what the re-elected Turnbull government will mean for early childhood education.
