QUT Professor Michael Rosemann is the new German Honorary Consul for southern Queensland.

Professor Rosemann is a leading global expert in innovation and disruptive technology, an area that is extremely important for the future focus for the State and Federal Governments.

Leading one of the most exciting and future-oriented teams in Queensland, the Information Systems School within the Science and Engineering Faculty at Queensland University of Technology, Professor Rosemann is a renowned global thought leader, author and keynote speaker on digital mindfulness, process design and innovation systems.

His new role will provide opportunities for continued promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) within Queensland, as well as fostering German-Australian collaborative research and technology relationships.

“Being at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and ideas that could permeate the tomorrow’s world is an incredibly exciting challenge,” Professor Rosemann said.

“There is huge potential in Queensland with its multi-cultural young minds, digital talents, entrepreneurial spirit and exciting ideas. Directing these ideas into tangible research outcomes, new career pathways and, effectively, helping create a vibrant innovation ecosystem in Queensland with global visibility and impact is something I’m passionate about,” he said.

Professor Rosemann is now the key representative of southern Queensland’s Germans, a community of around 12,000 German nationals with a long and strong history in the state – from early free settlers, to post-war migration, and now young German professionals visiting and moving to the Sunshine State.

For Queensland’s Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business, the Honourable Leeanne Enoch, the appointment is also a boost for the State Government’s strong innovation agenda.

“I congratulate Michael on his new consular role and am particularly pleased to have such a key expert in this position. It opens up potential for greater cooperation and initiatives between Queensland and Germany, as the European technological powerhouse. It’s a win-win situation for the German community and for Queensland.”

Professor Rosemann’s vision for his new role: “It’s not only a great honour to take up this position; it is a huge opportunity to use my experience, expertise and contacts to the benefit of Queensland’s German community, Queensland’s future, and to increase joint initiatives and cooperation between this state and Germany.”

Professor Rosemann’s appointment follows the return to Germany of former Honorary Consul and QUT Professor Michael Schüetz who will head the Centre for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC) at the Charité University Clinic in Berlin.
