Why are more women in prison and mostly for violence? The sharp upswing in the number of women in Australian prisons has to change before Australia follows the example of the US and UK where women’s imprisonment has increased markedly over decades, QUT School of Justice head Professor Kerry Carrington says.

New Psychology and Counselling Clinic to address gap in Caboolture’s support services: QUT will open an outreach Psychology and Counselling Clinic at its Caboolture campus two days a week this month, offering subsidised support for people suffering learning and developmental difficulties.

Scholarship keeps memories of Pop alive for budding music journalist: An 18-year-old Forest Lake QUT journalism and law student has been awarded the 2016 QUT Amy Clough Scholarship to cover his first year of creative industries tuition fees.

- A QUT and Cancer Council Qld study which found single cancer patients face death sooner, received national coverage through AAP including Nine News online, 10 News, the West Australian, ABC online, ABC radio, The Australian, APN regional papers and Tech Times.
Dr Gary Mortimer provided expert comment to Channel 7 News on the introduction of the Lidl supermarket chain to Qld and the expansion of Aldi into the Gold Coast. His views on the subject were featured on The Daily Mail. He also spoke to 2UE about the closure of Dick Smith and again to Channel 7 News informing them that the introduction of paid parking at Pacific Fair would be a win-win for both shoppers and retailers.
- PhD researcher Irina Anastasiu provided comment to 10 News on the benefits of Brisbane City Council expanding the availability of free WiFi in the city.
- PhD researcher Kristi Greig’s research into whether music and song might help young women quit smoking ran throughout the Fairfax network including the Brisbane Times and The Age, and also made it on to the UK’s This Is Money news site.
- The QUT Business School’s Business Leaders’ Forum was covered by The Courier Mail and Herald Sun.
Brisbane Times sought Dr Marc Miska’s expertise for a story on how we can fix Brisbane’s growing congestion problems.

Professor Kerry Carrington (pictured left) explained to news.com.au and News Corp’s network of daily papers why more Australian women are ending up in jail.
Australian Anthill profiled Australia’s first Startup Weekend for ‘creative tech’ at QUT Creative Enterprise Australia.
Professor Erik Thompson discussed the link between stress and cancer with radio 2SER.
Dr Greg Kyle told news.com.au  and The Courier-Mail there were no occasions to clinically use magnesium and DMSO together in an IV infusion, reportedly being done by a former Queensland police officer in Bali to treat autism.
Associate Professor Kerryann Walsh talked to news.com.au about gaps in research on the effects of pornography on children.
Professor Gerry Fitzgerald’s article about system-wide congestion in emergency healthcare was published in the Medical Journal Australia.
Professor Selena Bartlett’s simple strategies for dealing with stress at work featured in Business Insider Australia.
Generosity magazine featured Dr Wendy Scaife, Marie Crittall and Stephanie Bolderman’s philanthropy survey of Australian professional advisors.
The Bundaberg News Mail featured a story on the work of Professor Judith Clements and her research using 3D models to mimic cancer cells in women with aggressive ovarian tumours.
Tall Poppy Awards 2013Professor Marcus Foth (pictured right), Associate Professor Thea Blackler and Dr Paul Cunningham wrote a piece for The Conversation on bee-centred hive design and digital beehives, which was also picked up by The Canberra Times and Australasian Science and South Africa’s Bizcommunity.
Professor Foth’s research into ‘skunkworks’ was also mentioned in a Conversation article republished by Australasian Science.
Dr Cassandra Cross used The Conversation to explain how online fraud might be falling but scammers are changing their tactics to cash in. 
- The Courier Mail, Adelaide Advertiser and Cairns Weekend Post covered QUT's bid to improve uni students' financial literacy and research by Dr Chrisann Palm and Dr Laura de Zwaan.
Nine News featured a story with QUT’s Linda Bradby about women cyclists and the need for better facilities and infrastructure.
Dr Matthew Dunbabin explored environmental robots on ABC News 24’s Weekend Breakfast.
Associate Professor John Banks spoke about the health of the gaming industry to 666 ABC Canberra.
